The first day, inside the training building.
On our way to the food with my one arm brace (if that is what you call them) and Cobra in hand. His hardest part was the "no sniff" command, because obviously that food is hard to ignore.
Now I'm attempting to operate the wheelchair. It was a little complicated to steer, just with your hands so I had to use my feet a lot.
I just got back from Pups Daze down in Washington Kansas. For those of you that don't know what Pups Daze is, it's a weekend where all (or as many as possible) the puppy raisers come to meet and greet and learn about certain commands, how to introduce your puppy to various situations, and other fun, educational stuff. We were also fortunate to have a graduate panel where we could ask the graduates questions.
Cobra was his usual sniffy, sleepy self on Saturday, and Sunday he was kind of distracted so I put his Gentle Leader on and he calmed down immediately (boy, do I love that invention!)
The best part for me was on Sunday, the puppy raisers had to pick a piece of disability equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, etc..) and use that to go get your dinner and eat......WITH your dog. We had to try and put our dogs on loose leads and command them (for me anyway) to "no sniff" the food that was on the buffet style table. The first piece of equipment I had (I think this is what you call them) was an arm brace, so that was interesting! Then we tried the wheelchair and Cobra did excellent! I only ran over his toes once!
Anyway, This was my first Pups Daze and boy I was not sorry I went. I had so much fun and learned a lot about how to approach and perfect different things. Pups Daze 2008, here I come!!

And now we are attempting to go through the door without casualties. I think we did make it because I am here today! But really, the door procedure was actually pretty easy for him. I told him to "wait" behind me "follow" after I'm through the door and then "heel" again.

Oh, I had a blast. Learned so much! I always learn something. I got to use the visual impairment aids but didn't get the physical disability aids. Cobra looks like he worked that door like a champ. The graduate panel was one of the best parts!
That sounds like so much fun!! Im glad Cobra did so well.
