Chinese New Year Festivities

I have to say something right off......... I forgot to take my camera :( I know! I should be shot for it, but I got busy with something and then I totally forgot. Sorry!

We got to my sisters house at about 11 a.m. and then we left for the event at about 12:30 p.m. (had to play a quick game on the Wii!) When we got there, boy was it colorful! Red is the lucky color in the Chinese culture so red was everywhere accented in golds, browns, pinks, and alot of other colors. The event was at a finer arts academy place. Not exactly sure if it was a school or just a museum type thing, it might have been both, not sure.
We attended, in one of their theatre rooms, a Chinese circus act and my niece, Hannah, was picked from the audience to help them with their plate spinning! It was great! She really enjoyed that. After that performance, we attended a more culture rich dance performance, from the Twin Cities Chinese Dance Center with authentic wear, music, and traditional moves. They used Geisha dance techniques too which was cool! I love that movie Memoirs of a Geisha so that interesting to see it in person.
Afterwards, the kids did some crafts. Alot of it was based on the fact that it was the year of the rat. In the Chinese Zodiac, this year fell on the rat year. For those of you that don't know, the Chines zodiac is like our Zodiacs, but instead of months its years. They also take it much more seriously. There are things that are ruled by the Zodiac, such as who to marry, who your friends are, etc..
We left the Cities at about 6 ish and headed for home. We stopped at a craft place because my mom needed some yarn and I headed over to Petco to check on some prices, but when I got there, it was on fire. There was water everywhere and the smoke was billowing out. That changed my mind! :) It didn't seem like a big deal, so it appeared that everyone was safe, but what a mess! I can smell the wet, soggy dogfood from here. ick!
That was my day yesterday and although Cobra didn't go, he got a nice, fun romp in the snow, with the others dogs, when I got home.
