Oh Dear :(

Okay, so I've heard all the stories of puppies having accidents when they're not supposed to (ie: stores, restaurants, classes, etc.....), but never, not once have I been able to relate to them, because Cobra had never had an accident anywhere, not even as a pup, but yesterday changed all that.
We had just gotten off work and he hadn't gone to the bathroom since that morning, about 6:30.
It was now 12:30 and thought he would be fine while I make a quick milk run in Wal-Mart. Well, he didn't need to go number one but two. I was back by the milk and heading down a more secluded aisle (thank goodness!) when I could feel at the end of the leash, an abrupt stop. I was thinking to myself as I was turning around that he was probably trying to get a piece of food or something that was extremely interesting.
As I turn around, I see it.........arched back, and back legs forward. I quickly try and stop it by getting him to move and sit. I finally did, but a poop clump had escaped. I think only one person saw this, but I'm sure the security cameras got it (great....)
Well, I was going to do a little browsing, but not any more. I grabbed the milk, watched him closely as I made my way to the front, quickly paid for it and left. I then let him go when I got back to the Tractor Supply parking lot.
This sure was an experience and it was my fault because I should have let him go, but I didn't think he would go number 2! Although, poop is easier and quicker ;) to clean up than pee is, so I'm thankful for that.
Well that was yesterday's day. Today we worked for 8 hours then went to a kennel club meeting right afterwards so he's been in his cape about 10 hours today. Loooong day, but it was good for him. I think tomorrow I'll leave him at home to let me (and him, I suppose) recuperate! goodness, these pups sure can be exhausting, but we all know they're worth it!

So...does he have a way of letting you know when he has to go?
Working with my brother's pup, on puppy training is going ok, there's only been about two accidents...I'm really looking forward to the day when she will tell us that she needs to go! :)

>>hey, Miriam and Lisa.......okay, no one is looking. Is that male Boomer, by chance? Lisa, do you know?
Miriam, congrats for your brother.
I take it its the brother that your living with, correct?
I heard your phone message, but haven't been able to call you because my mom has my phone for a couple of hours.<<

Now, now, Sarah... What differance does it make if the male is Boomer??
Yup, my oldest brother, I'm living with him and his clan helping them out.
Man, you can always think of good excuses! ;)

Sarah, Now, you can consider yourself truly initiated as a puppy raiser!!! Been there, done that. :)

I'm confused by that last post. But, ding ding ding. It was Boomer with Houli. I got a call from Miriam, but couldn't understand a word. I don' tknow if I was in a weird area and wasn't getting signal. But it sounded like a jarble.

May I tell you my most embarrassing potty moment?

-Sarah takes Major to mall
-Major decides in front of the bookstore looks like a nice spot
-Sarah picks 75 lb Major up to carry him to the nearby door
-Major does nothing
-Sarah comes back in to find the trail of evidence had followed them to the door
-Sarah holds her head in shame as she pulls out a baggy

Don't feel bad, it happens to everyone!

Hope you enjoyed my happy little tale ;)

Sarah

Yes, welcome to the embarrassing potty accidents club! I'm impressed that Cobra waited so long to initiate you! I'd be happy to tell you about pooping in Lowe's or peeing 3 times in the mall during 1 puppy meeting! I'm sure there have been others, but those stand out for some reason...

Aye, that would be pretty sweet if in we all got siblings!

Just part of raising/handling a service dog. At least you cleaned up after him. Rufus has occasional accidents too. I learned my lesson about always carrying bags with me when Rufus went once in Wally World. Fun, not! Does Cobra give you any signals that he needs to go?

Sarah and Romeo said...

As for signals, no, not really. I do know that when he gets "stinky" then that means he needs to poop, but other that that, no.
That will be one thing I'll look for/teach my next pup.

I'm very impressed Cobra made it that long!! my first dog ALWAYS pooped every single time we walked outside of Sears into the mall. Every, single, time. I would even busy her before going in for ten minutes, but no luck. But as soon as we got out of sears and into the mall portion, boom! Sigh.. you learn quickly to always have baggies around. :) And hey, Camry's first (and so far only, knock on wood) accident in public was in the milk isle too!

Haha, join the club! Blitz has never had that experience, (YAY!!!) But Jaylie....Quite another story. I had NO idea what I was doing with her, and so potty training took a while. I had no idea what the signs were...Every time I felt that stop...My heart lept.
