County Fair

Tuesday night was the start of our local county fair. Me and my niece decided to go and take Doni on Wednesday. We encountered all of the usual fair stuff. Saw some really interesting exhibits and projects, that part always fascinates me :)

After the basic stuff was out of the way, We headed to the animal barns. We encountered sheep........

And cows (this was one of the bucket bottle calves)..........

More cows.........

We also went in the horse barn and he got a chance to pose with some very cooperative horses (all the others were either eating, looking down , or completely turned to us! the nerve!)
* I had one other pic, but I just deleted it! Ah, technology! It was the same, posing in front of a stall*

So we saw Chickens and Bunnies and all the other animals and the pigs were last. Let me tell you, there was no way he was getting in there! He practically locked his legs, pulled back, and whined alot. After quite a bit of coaxing, we at least got in the barn. I had him sit by 3 sows, which he wasn't too pleased at) were were completely still and sleeping. We walked along the outer edge and then proceeded in the "lions den" so to speak. He was very skittish, ears back, tail tucked, the whole works. We stopped and sat, stopped and sat and after going up and down it about 50 times, he got a bit more comfortable. They then started to get them out for vet exams and into the show ring, so we headed out of there. Didn't want to reverse what little progress we made!
After all that :) We headed to a little "kids farm" were they have little building representing different things on the farm. Such as the farmhouse, the horse barn, the grain bins, dairy barn, etc... They had a chicken house and to my surprise when we walked in there, about 25 chicks not even a week old!! Doni was interested, but not super distracted as I thought he would be (too stressed from the pigs I imagine)

My niece got one out and he sniffed it and started cleaning it! Licking its face and feathers. It reminded me of a time when he did that to Only, an abandoned goose a fellow PR picked up :)

All in all, it was a good day. We just have to work on leaning things alone and those pigs!! :)

Oh Only, I forgot about him! That was hilarious! He's such a little nurturer! :D

Sounds like a fun day. I'm not sure how Rufus would react to the pigs, cows, or chickens. We don't know anyone here who keeps farm animals.
